Why We Built This Site
North Carolina court access can seem fragmented because the online view, the courtroom calendar, and the official file serve different purposes. In Columbus County, the Clerk of Superior Court maintains the local files, dockets, and indexes for both trial-court divisions. Superior Court handles felonies and larger civil actions, while District Court handles matters such as misdemeanors, infractions, family cases, and many lower-value civil claims. The North Carolina eCourts Portal gives the public a free route to a public Case Summary, also called a Register of Actions, but it is not the official record. The county's February 2025 eCourts conversion made that Portal the primary online search route while preserving the clerk counter as the practical records fallback. Appeals from the trial divisions generally proceed through the North Carolina Court of Appeals, while eCourts File & Serve remains the distinct filing application.

What We Cannot Do
This is a privately operated reference site, not a North Carolina court, clerk office, or government agency. The following requests must go to the court system or clerk that maintains the record:
- Obtaining an official Case Summary, court file, or document
- Changing, setting, resetting, or confirming a hearing date
- Seeking to alter, seal, expunge, or amend a court record
- Obtaining a certified copy, certificate under seal, or exemplification
- Receiving legal advice about a charge, filing, deadline, or case outcome
- Confirming a current fee, schedule, office number, or access restriction
The Columbus County Clerk of Superior Court, rather than this site or the Portal, is the local source for a certified court record. Portal results should be checked against the clerk-held record when an official copy is needed.
Search Partners
Some pages carry search boxes supplied by third parties. Those providers operate their own services and establish their own prices, data practices, and search results. A paid referral may produce compensation for this site. That does not make an outside result an official court record, and it does not change the public routes maintained by the North Carolina Judicial Branch.
